Arrival to Catania and transfer to the city centre. The visit will start with a guided walking tour in Catania historical centre along the Baroque Via Crociferi, the Teatro Massimo Opera House and the Duomo Square with its Cathedral and the Elephant (symbol of the city) made of lava stone. Lunch at restaurant. In the afternoon we will visit the suggestive towns in the Riviera dei Ciclopi. In Aci Castello the landscape is dominated by the Norman Castle, built in lava stone, overhanging the sea. Along the nice seafront of Aci Trezza you will be charmed by the suggestive panorama offered by the Lachea Island and the Faraglioni, ancient lava rocks that, according to Homer’s myth, were thrown to Ulysses by Polyphemus (“The Odyssey“). In the end Acireale, with its splendid Baroque historical centre and its belvedere. Accommodation at hotel in Catania area, dinner and overnight.

Breakfast at your hotel. Crossing suggestive landscapes, rich of different kinds of vegetation, we will reach the height of 2.000 meters to explore the highest active volcano in Europe: Mount Etna. Surrounded by ancient craters, you will admire a suggestive panorama of the Ionic Coast. We will visit the “Silvestri Craters” and the recent lava flows of 2001/2002. Lunch at restaurant or in a farm-house. The afternoon will be dedicated to “the pearl of the Ionic Sea”: Taormina. During the walking tour you will have the chance to visit the Ancient Greek Theatre, the Duomo, the Belvedere and also to go shopping among the typical small streets of this nice town. Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Breakfast at hotel and depart to Siracusa to discover the Archaeological Park of Neapolis, famous for its Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Ear of Dionysius and the Latomies of Paradise (guided walking tour). Then we will make a nice walking tour in Ortygia Island, the ancient historical centre, to admire the splendid Cathedral (built on the rests of a Greek Temple dedicated to Athena), the Temple of Apollo and the Fountain of Arethusa with its papyrus plants. Lunch at restaurant. In the afternoon we will proceed to Noto, the capital of Sicilian Baroque: along the main street we will see a plenty of Baroque examples, such as Porta Reale, Palazzo Ducezio, the Duomo and Palazzo Nicolaci. Accommodation at hotel in Ragusa area, dinner and overnight.

Breakfast at your hotel. The visit will start with Donnafugata Castle and its gardens, also known for being recently used as location for the Italian TV Series “The Inspector Montalbano”. Proceed to Modica, part of UNESCO Heritage Sites, for a pleasant walking tour in the charming historical centre rich of chapels, churches, monasteries and Baroque palaces. The visit will end in a local pastry shop where we will stop to taste the famous chocolate deriving from an ancient recipe. Lunch at restaurant.
